Is Mast Shoes open for in-person shopping?
Yes! Our current store hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10AM – 5:30PM (closed Sunday and Monday).
What is your mask policy nowadays?
Mask use is preferred while inside Mast Shoes. Our team will continue wearing masks at all times during service hours. Current CDC guideline that everyone, regardless of vaccination status should mask while indoors. If you forget your mask, we have you covered! Just ask our host and they’ll give you one.
We love you. We love each other and our families. We don’t want anyone getting sick because they chose to come to work or shop with us. This new guidance feels like a disappointing step backward but we know it’s the safest way to operate at this time.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Nope! Walk in anytime Tuesday – Saturday 10AM – 5:30PM. Occasionally there is a short wait to try shoes on (between 1 – 10 minutes usually). You’re welcome to browse indoors or shop our outdoor sale rack while you wait. We also have indoor and outdoor seats to rest on. Just make sure you give your name to our host and we’ll come to find you when it’s your turn.
What are your store hours?
Tuesday 10AM – 5:30PM
Wednesday 10AM – 5:30PM
Thursday 10AM – 5:30PM
Friday 10AM – 5:30PM
Satuday 10AM – 5:30PM
Is there a time that is less busy than others?
Yes, 10AM – 11AM and 2:30PM – 5:30PM tend to be our less busy hours.
What if I want to come in and browse?
Great! Come on in. If you want to try shoes, be sure to give the host your first name so that you’re in the queue to try shoes on. We’ll call your name when it’s your turn.
Why do I need to check in with the host?
If all of our team members are assisting customers when you arrive, giving your name to the host will get you in the queue to try shoes on. The next available team member will call your name, take you to a seating area (that holds 2 people), offer to measure your feet, and get you shoes to try. You’re welcome to browse or sit in our indoor or outdoor waiting areas until your name is called.
It has been a long time since I’ve been in. What does it look like in there now?
Here’s a pic!
Are you still offering contact-free curbside pickup?
Yes, we are! Place your order for shoes, insoles, socks, and shoe care products by online or by phone and your order will be ready for pick up within an hour. If you place your order outside of business hours, it will be ready for you in the first hour of the next business day.
You can find our online shop here: https://mast-shoes.myshopify.com/
Our phone number is: 734-662-8118
What if I want to walk in to the store and pick up the order I placed online or by phone?
You’re welcome to do that! After placing your order, walk-in anytime during business hours and tell the host you’re here to pick up your order. They’ll hand it to you, thank you, and smile at you with their eyes (watch for it) 😉
I’d like to order the same pair of shoes I currently have but I can’t tell what model they are or their size. Is that something you can help me with on the phone?
Yes! Give us a call and we are happy to help you with this. For shoes we carry that you purchased from us before, we’re particularly adept at determining what shoes and sizes are over the phone after asking you a few questions (like what they look like and where to look for the size). 9 times out of 10 we can figure it out together. In rare cases we can’t, we will help you determine the next best step, which is usually coming in. Our phone number is 734-662-8118.
I’d like to look at your shoes before I come in. Can I look at them online?
Yes! You can view our collection here: https://mast-shoes.myshopify.com/
Are all the shoes you have online?
Yes, mostly! Also online are our socks from Smartwool & Sockwell, our Powerstep collection & popular gift items. Most of our sale items are not in our online shop. Our sale shoes are currently on the racks on the sidewalk outside of Mast Shoes.
Do you still have a good selection of sandals?
Yes, we do! Our shelves are full of comfy sandals in many styles.
When is the best time to buy boots?
For the best selection, get in here before the first snowfall. Mark your calendar to come in for boots in the Fall. New boots are shipping in every week! We will include new boot arrivals in our weekly emails. In order to get those emails, be sure to subscribe!
Additional ways to browse our collection and “get inside” before coming in to try shoes on are:
-Look in our front window when you’re in the neighborhood! We rotate it regularly.
Can I use my gift certificate to pay for a phone order?
Yes! Call us to place your order and have your gift certificate ready. We’ll ask you for your name, the amount, and the number in the bottom right corner.
Can I use my gift certificate to pay for an online order?
Yes! It takes a few extra steps. Bear with us. Our gift certificates are in a different system than our online shop but we’ve found a workaround.
Complete your online order with your credit card and in the “notes” section, let us know you’d like to use a gift certificate. Include the number on the bottom right of your gift certificate. We’ll process the gift certificate manually and then “refund” your credit card for your gift card amount (we’ll confirm it in our records). It’s clunky right now but it works. Thanks again for your patience and support!
Where did the sale rack go?
The selection of men’s and women’s clearance shoes that used to be on the racks in the back of the store is now OUTSIDE in front of Mast Shoes. We’re lucky to have a wide, covered sidewalk that can shelter our sale shoes for easy and fun browsing. They’re all arranged by size. Only the right shoes are outside so when you find some you’d like to try on, bring them in and we’ll get you the mates and your own seating area to try them on. Some of our sale shoes are available to order online. MOST sale shoes are not online so be sure to pop by to take a look.
Can I still request donations from Mast Shoes?
Our donation program is on pause through 2021. We will start accepting requests when we’ve recovered enough to have the resources to do so again. We’ll get back to it! Thanks for your patience.
We will continue to support Food Gatherer’s this year and encourage you to do so, too. Requests for food in Washtenaw County have increased by 300% since March 2020. Let’s help Food Gatherers keep our neighbors fed. You can donate here: https://www.foodgatherers.org/
We also donate shoes to Safe House Center whose mission is to provide safety, support, advocacy and resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and their children, and to work relentlessly to change the systems and attitudes that allow this abuse to continue. Demand for their services has risen during the pandemic.
If you can donate, please do: https://www.safehousecenter.org/donate/
I’d like to purchase a really good pair of shoes for someone in need. Can I buy the shoes and you find the person who needs them?
Absolutely. One of our amazing customers invented this unofficial program. She called and said “I want to use my stimulus check to buy shoes for someone who needs them. Do you know anyone?” We are happy to pass along gift certificates you purchase to people who will benefit from high-quality, well-fitting shoes. We have a network of social workers who serve people in our community who would benefit from good shoes and otherwise couldn’t afford them.
I’ve heard and read some things about the importance of purchasing from our small, local businesses during the pandemic. Why?
To put it bluntly, if you want local shops like us and restaurants to be here for you to enjoy post-pandemic the single most helpful thing you can do to make that happen is to buy from us as much as possible. In addition to storefronts, all of us have websites to order from, curbside pickup & shipping options. Shop Small as much as you can all year. It is our pleasure and passion to serve our community & employ community members but without sales, it isn’t sustainable.
Consider your purchases from small & local shops and restaurants an investment that pays dividends. For example, when you buy your mom a pair of slippers from Mast Shoes, your brother a book from Literati or Nicola’s Books, and your children or grandchildren clothes and toys from The Little Seedling, the dividend you’ll be paid next year is that these businesses will still be here for you to enjoy.
Please do not use local businesses for “showrooming.” Showrooming is visiting a local, physical store in order to examine or try on a product before buying online from Amazon or another big online retailer. Using local businesses to “showroom” is really not cool. We know most of our customers are awesome and don’t do this but it’s worth mentioning in this context.
The more you encourage your family and friends to shift some of their purchases to local shops the more you can positively affect our community and our local economy. One great way to spread the word is to fill your own birthday and holiday wish lists with items from local shops.
How ARE you doing?
While the pandemic brought challenges to just about every nook and cranny of Mast Shoes, we’re doing really well now. As a team, we continue to thoughtfully work through each new stage designing our processes with our most loyal customers in mind. We have a healthy all-star shoe fitting team, 10,000 pairs of shoes in stock, a beautiful store, and the best customers in the world. We’re pretty darn lucky.
Are you going to make it?
Our incredible community has rallied around us and we’re so grateful. As long as folks continue to purchase shoes from Mast Shoes, we will make it!
What can I do to help?
Continue making your footwear purchases from us.
Recommend us to your friends and family.
